World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has decided to skip this week's Houston Open due to family commitments. Golf Channel's Brentley Romine confirmed this withdrawal is not because of any injury, but because Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, are expecting their second child. This has opened a spot for Matt Kuchar.
If Scheffler opts out of next week's Valero Texas Open as well, his next competition will be the highly anticipated Masters event. The couple's first child was born shortly after his remarkable win at Augusta in May 2024. At that Masters, Scheffler was ready to leave if Meredith went into early labor.
This season started well for Scheffler, who has been runner-up in the Houston Open several times. However, his recent finishes have been outside the top 10, with mixed results at the Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and Players Championship. Despite these, Scheffler expressed satisfaction with his evolving game, remaining focused on preparations for Augusta.
