Bryson DeChambeau insists he still believes in the future of LIV Golf despite the league losing financial backing from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund after the 2026 season.
Speaking ahead of LIV Korea, the American admitted the news came as a surprise.
“We were surprised that they pulled out as quickly as they did. We didn’t really see that coming,” DeChambeau said.
Still, the two-time major champion believes LIV’s team-based format can survive independently moving forward.
“I’m very optimistic about the business model of team golf,” he explained. “I think it can create national and local support and help grow the game globally.”
DeChambeau has previously spoken about expanding his rapidly growing YouTube presence if LIV’s future became uncertain, but this week he played down suggestions of an imminent exit.
Instead, he said his focus remains on playing golf — and helping LIV continue to grow as one of the league’s biggest stars.
“My job is to go out on the first tee and hit a great drive down the middle,” he said with a smile.
The American also addressed the constant criticism surrounding both LIV Golf and his own role within the sport.
“People are always going to have opinions about me,” DeChambeau said. “Some think I’m the best thing for golf, others think I’m the worst. That’s okay. I know what my mission is, and I’m not going to let that distract me.”
